Melinda Dowling, MA CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathologist

 

Melinda earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and holds a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Indiana University.  She was the 2008 winner of the Norvelle Award for Academic Excellence in Speech and Hearing Sciences.  Melinda brings her experience working as a Speech therapist in the local school system to her current role as the co-owner of Bloomington Pediatric Speech Therapy.  In her role as a school clinician, Melinda developed programs for children with developmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Apraxia, Articulation Disorders, Phonological Impairments, Fluency Disorders, and Receptive/Expressive Language Delays.  


Melinda believes in a multidisciplinary approach and works closely with parents, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, as well as other specialists.  Her prior experience in public schools allows her to assist parents during the transition into school programs, assist parents during the IEP process, and to collaborate with the child’s school-based clinician. 

Melinda is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.  She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).  She is accredited by the by Indiana’s Professional Licensing Board and holds a teaching license in Communication Disorders from the Indiana Department of Education. Rachel Mahrt, MA CCC-SLP 
Speech Language Pathologist

 

Rachel earned her undergraduate degree at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and holds a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from Indiana University. Rachel brings her experience working as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Children's Therapy Center to her current role as co-owner of Bloomington Pediatric Speech Therapy. In her role as a speech language pathologist at Children's Therapy Center, Rachel treated children with a variety of diagnosis, including but not limited to developmental disabilities, autism, Asperger's Syndrome, apraxia, articulation disorders, phonological impairments, fluency disorders/stuttering, feeding and swallowing disorders, receptive/expressive language delays, and social communication deficits.

 

While at Children's Therapy Center, Rachel pursued additional education and training from Michelle Garcia Winner in the growing field of Social Thinking. With this training, Rachel led the speech therapy department in the diagnosis and treatment of social communication disorders. Rachel has implemented social therapy in individual and group settings. Rachel continues to be well respected among her colleagues for the work she does with children and adolescents who have social thinking deficits.

 

Rachel is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
